Oonee Elements with a parklet for children and secure bike parking envisioned on a residential street

Today, we’re happy to announce the development of Oonee Elements, a game changing micromobility and placemaking system that will unlock new possibilities on streetscapes across the globe. Elements is a smart, modular, multi-purpose toolkit that makes it easier than ever for communities to get the most out of their streets. Built in partnership with Cyclehoop and Fantastica, Elements taps into decades of knowhow from New York and London’s top public space innovators.

The building blocks of a complete street.

Examples of the possibilities include an outdoor dining parklet, paired with room for cargo bikes; or curbside playground in a residential neighborhood, paired with enough secure bike parking for the whole block. Together with seamless design customization, management and mobile-app integrations, Elements will be the smartest, most complete placemaking system ever designed.

Prologue

Traditionally, city leaders and managers have thought about streetscape services in separate silos. There are programs for outdoor dining, programs for parklets, programs for bike parking and programs for bus shelters etc. In many places, each of these programs feature their own permitting process, design standards and implementation procedures. This can radically increase the complexity and costs associated with designing livable streets.

In 2020, for example, many cities rushed to permit outdoor dining structures by the hundreds of thousands. In most cases, the utility of these structures were limited to seating, leaving other functions like charging and secure bike parking out in the cold. Additionally, the bespoke nature of many outdoor dining structure programs made high-quality structures cost prohibitive for many communities and businesses to procure and manage.

With a smarter, multi-purpose approach, Elements makes it easier than ever for communities to consolidate their efforts. One design can provide a range of functionalities and features.

A Fresh Approach

An Outdoor Dining Experience Paired with Secure Parking for Cargo Bikes

Elements is a system of highly customizable pieces that can be combined to create curbside multi-purpose parklets. Communities will be able to choose from a catalogue of presets configurations or design their own. Initially, core modules will include functionalities like storage, bike parking, illumination, outdoor eating, children’s play areas and social spaces but more will be added over time.

Installations are designed to be ultra-durable, and include a wide array of customizable cladding, greenery, lighting and architectural features to choose from.

Elements is designed to be completely turnkey, with installation, maintenance, and management all included in one simple price.

Live themed configurations focus on social space, outdoor dining and parklets that have become commonplace in American cities in the post pandemic landscape.

Features of this theme include custom cladding options, space for community artwork or business branding, greenery and illumination opportunities. Elements can be connected directly to the grid, operate without power or generate electricity through the use of solar panels mounted on the rooftop area.

Live themed installations include provisions for both standard and cargo bike parking, which can double as buffers for the primary structure.

Work themed installations are designed to meet the needs of residential, mixed-use and commercial communities by providing short term working, collaboration and meeting space in a streamlined parklet environment. These installations include secure bike parking installations as a protective barrier, options for Wifi, smart reservation management and more.

Designed for residential neighborhoods, “Play” themed designs are intended to provide children and adults with places to socialize and play. These designs include mini-playground options for children or can include seating areas for adults. Installations can include smart features

“Wellness” themed designs perform a similar functionality, but are designed with exercise amenities for adults. Both configurations can be modified to meet the needs of individual communities.

Base Modules

Every community is different. That’s why we’re designing Elements with unprecedented iterative features and customization options.

Base modules serve as the foundation for each Elements design. These include secure bike parking, cargo bike parking, charging stations, and curbside parklets. Base modules can be ordered as a standalone, or combined to make a multi-purpose installation.

Modules can be further customized with cladding, placemaking and design features that can match the needs and requirements of the local streetscape.

Bikes & Cargo Bikes

Secure Bike Parking: designed in New York, engineered in London

Secure parking for bikes, scooters, and cargo bikes is one of the most under-realized transportation services in cities today. In our hometown of New York City, roughly twenty-five percent of households have lost at least one bike to theft.

Through a historic collaboration with Cyclehoop, Elements makes it easier than ever to scale this vital amenity. With a design based on the iconic London Bikehangar, Elements offers communities an affordable, durable and dependable framework for standard, e-bikes and cargo bikes.

Like other components in the Elements ecosystem, these modules can be custom cladded and even host illumination features. Through Oonee OS, residents will be able to park via an on-demand or reservation system. Managers can also apportion access as desired.

Parklets & Outdoor Dining

Designed in New York by Studio Fantastica, Elements includes a range of multi-purpose parklets that can be customized to meet the needs of even the most demanding streetscape. Parklets include a range of smart features, cladding options and are built to meet a broad variety of permitting standards.

Smart & Connected

Paired with smart sensors and Oonee OS, Elements comes with a range of smart options that make it simple for members of the community to interact with the curbside. Smart components are additive and optional; those looking for a disconnected experience will be able to customize their Elements without sensors or smart features.

Community members will be able to interact with Elements via smart technology

Specific smart features include:
